For those still looking for confirmation of Klingon involvement in Star Trek Discovery, CBS has revealed 3 new cast members who will all play important roles with forehead ridges. Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo have all been given the opportunity to join the long list of Star Trek alumni and will star in the new series in the New Year.
The Actors:
Chris Obi will star as T’Kuvma, a Klingon leader hoping to unite the Klingon houses. This indicates a time of disarray for the Klingon Empire, although that doesn’t necessarily narrow it down too much. Obi has been involved in American Gods (2017), Ghost in the Shell (2017) and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012).
Shazad Latif (Below) is due to play Kol, the Commanding Officer of the Klingons and the protégé of T’Kuvma. Amongst a decent résumé, Latif recently had a starring role as Dr. Henry Jekyll in Penny Dreadful and received rave reviews. He is a British actor of Pakistani origins.
Mary Chieffo (Below) is set to star as L’Rell, a bridge officer on a Klingon ship. Chieffo comes from acting roots as her parents were both stars of the stage and the big screen. She is over 6 feet tall; an important attribute for a Klingon female whose mating rituals state that the wedding is doomed if they don’t at least break a collar bone during the consummation.
The Klingon trio joins Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp as the announced cast members. It appears as though the show is still steaming ahead despite the loss of Bryan Fuller who quit the production recently. He stated that he would not be able to meet his other commitments if he gave everything to Star Trek Discovery.
