The Expanse Returns: Are You Ready For Season 2?

February 1st sees the return of the Expanse in a 2 episode season-opening that promises to answer any questions left at the end of the first season, and undoubtedly raise a few more.

The first episodes look like they are going to show how the tension across the solar system has risen between Earth, Mars and the OPA. The OPA know that when Mars and Earth get feisty, they are the ones that tend to get into trouble.

If you missed the first season, then I definitely recommend getting Netflix to watch it, or choose any legal method watching the show. Alternatively, here is the premise for the series:

It is the 23rd century and humans have colonized the solar system. The U.N. controls earth. Mars is an independent military power. The inner planets depend on the resources of the asteroid belt. Belters live and work in space. In the Belt, air and water are more precious than gold. For decades, tensions have been rising – Earth, Mars and the Belt are now on the brink of war. All it will take is a single spark. Against this backdrop, a hardened detective and a rogue freighter captain come together to investigate the case of a missing young woman. The investigation leads them on a race across the solar system that could expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.

Season 2 trailers:

Spoiler-free Season 2 plot:

“The story of THE EXPANSE unfolds across a colonized galaxy 200 years in the future, when two strangers – a hardened detective, Joe Miller (Thomas Jane), and a rogue ship’s captain, James Holden (Steven Strait) – become unwittingly swept up in a vast conspiracy to cover up a horrific human experiment.  As Season 2 kicks off with interplanetary tensions at an all-time high, the cold war between Earth and Mars is on the brink of an all-out battle.”

My view:

The first season of the Expanse was a well-produced science fiction show, or space opera, that gave us hope when a second season was announced. It took a while to get into the show and the first few episodes were fairly slow, but the Martian Navy were cool as hell and I was glad to hear that the second season concentrates on those guys. I really hope they iron out some of the small creases from the first season and the show can both reach a wider audience and go on to further success.
